Having a Halloween party this year? Here are some great games to play for adults and kids!

Who is the scariest of them all?

You’ll need:

Two bags of creepy accessories.

Suggestions:

A white sheet, fangs, wigs, glasses, a witch’s cape/hat/broom, devil horns and some face paint/make up.

How to play:

  • Select a judge and then divide the remaining party members into two teams.
  • Each team must nominate one person to get dressed up.
  • The judge must then hand out a bag to each of the teams.
  • The teams then have 5 minutes to dress their nominated team mate and make them as scary as possible.
  • Once the 5 minutes are up the judge will announce the winner… the scariest person wins!

Was that a mummy?

You’ll need:

Toilet paper (a roll for each member of every group) and music.
Music suggestions:
Michael Jackson – Thriller
Ray Parker, Jr. – Ghostbusters
Bobby "Boris" Pickett – The Monster Mash
'Rocky Horror Picture Show' Soundtrack – The Time Warp

How to play:

  • Select a judge and then divide the remaining party members into groups of 3 or 4.
  • When the music starts each team must wrap a member of their team in toilet paper without it ripping!
  • It’s up to the judge when to stop the music so each team must be quick and careful!
  • When the music stops the judge will announce the winner…the best mummy wins!

Bobbing for apples

A classic game to play at Halloween and is great fun for all the family! All you need is a large container full of water (an empty washing up bowl will do) and a bag of apples.

  • Place the apples in the container of water (the apples will float).
  • Each contestant must catch as many apples as possible with their teeth. Their hands must be kept firmly behind their back.
  • But there is a twist, each person only has one minute to catch their apples!
  • Make sure you put a water proof sheet under the bowl before you start as water will definitely be spilt!

Don’t fancy getting wet? Why not tie some doughnuts to the washing line and blind fold each contestant.

Pin the…

We’ve all heard of pin the tail on the donkey, so why not add an exciting Halloween twist to it. How about..

  • Pin the bow tie on the skeleton?
  • Or pin the wart on the witch?
  • Or pin the tail on the black cat?

Piñatas

You can’t have Halloween without ghoulish goodies! So why not get the kids together and make a homemade piñata!

You’ll need:

A balloon (preferably round in shape)
1 cup of flour
1 cup of water
Salt
Newspaper
Scissors
Paint (orange)
Paintbrush
Black marker pen
Crepe paper (orange and green)
Glue
String/ribbon
Sweets

Method:

  1. Put some newspaper or a plastic sheet over your work surface to protect it.
  2. Mix the flour, water and a tablespoon of salt together until it thickens, this will make a paper mache paste.
  3. Cut the newspaper into strips make sure you cut plenty as you will need to cover the balloon with several layers.
  4. Inflate your balloon.
  5. Dip the paper strips into the paper mache paste and apply the strips to the balloon in a crisscross pattern. Don’t cover the knot of the balloon.
  6. After applying multiple layers of paper mache to the balloon let it dry.
  7. Once dry start decorating! Cover the piñata with orange paint. You may want to balance the balloon in a large mug or bowl to make this process easier.
  8. Once the paint is dry, using a black marker pen draw the nose, eyes and mouth. Make sure you colour them in too!
  9. Cut the crepe paper into small strips and glue onto the piñata. Remember don’t cover the knot of the balloon.
  10. Hold the knot of the balloon, pop it and pull it out. This should leave a small hole for you to fill the piñata with sweets.
  11. Punch two holes around the main hole and tie some string or ribbon to create a loop so you can hang the piñata.
  12. Fill the piñata with sweets; avoid putting unwrapped sweets in the piñata.
  13. Glue some green crepe paper over the main hole to create the stalk.

Once you've created your piñata, hang it up and line your party members up in a single file, about 3 metres away. One at a time, using a bat or broomstick, they must attempt to hit the piñata whilst blind folded. Once all the goodies are released, you can share these out with everyone.
