Makes 10
You can never have too many Christmas decorations, especially ones that you and your kids have made yourselves. Here, we show you how to make simple paper Christmas trees to hang on your tree – and all you need is some cardboard, five sheets of red A4 paper, five sheets of white A4 paper and some ribbon.
Step 1 – Your tree template
Take a section of cardboard, minimum size 15 x 15cm – a piece taken from the side of a cardboard box is ideal. Draw out the shape of a Christmas tree, including trunk and branches as seen on the image above. Then cut around the edges so you have your Christmas tree cardboard template.
Step 2 – Cut out your trees
Take your sheets of white and red A4 paper and, sheet by sheet, draw around your template so you have lots of identical trees – you should be able to fit two trees onto each piece of paper. Then carefully cut out your trees – you should have ten white trees and ten red trees.
Step 3 – Slot them together
Take your red trees and, directly down the middle of the tree, cut a line from the bottom of the trunk up to the halfway point of the tree. Then take your white trees and cut a line from the very top of the tree down to the halfway point. You can now slot each red tree onto each white tree, giving you a 3D Christmas tree decoration.
Step 4 – Punch, thread and hang
Using a hole punch, make a single hole at the top of each of your tree decorations. Then cut several 4-inch lengths of ribbon to thread through each of hole, and tie in a knot. There you have it – ten homemade tree decorations!
