International Women's Day 2024

Park's Leading Ladies: Celebrating International Women's Day 2024

Each year, on March 8th, International Women’s Day takes centre stage. Celebrated globally, it's a day dedicated to honouring women all over the world and their impressive accomplishments.

At Park HQ, we’re proud supporters of this movement, and in 2024, we're excited to shine a spotlight on some of Park's incredible female savers and agents, celebrating their remarkable contributions to Park Christmas Savings.

This Woman's Work

International Women’s Day has a long history. First starting in 1909, the movement founds its roots in supporting the rights of female factory workers in the USA. It wasn’t until 1911 that more countries began to recognise the day, and it took until 1977 for International Women’s Day to be recognised by the United Nations.

The day itself is about us joining our voices with people from all around the world, shouting out the clear message for equal rights, as, after all, women’s rights are human rights. International Women’s Day is for celebrating women and their diversities in faith, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality identity, and disability, as well as honouring those who came before us, those standing at our side, and the future generation.

Another aspect of International Women's Day involves reflecting on women's achievements. So this year, Park HQ has connected with some of our savers and agents to chat about what it means to them to be a customer of ours.

Toni Daw

Plymouth powerhouse Toni has rocked the park scene for a cool six years.

  • Why did you become a Park Agent? So, I became a Park Agent because I've got a big family, and with my husband and son being disabled, I'm their full-time carer. Since I can't really head out to work, being a Park Agent has been a huge help, especially when Christmas rolls around.

  • How does being a Park Super Agent empower you to make a difference? I just love being able to help others take the worry out of Christmas.

  • If you could give a shout-out or advice to other women considering joining Park as Agents, what would it be? As for tips on becoming a Park Agent, honestly, I don't really have any because I find it pretty easy to manage. I've got this group chat set up with all my customers, and whenever I make a payment, I just drop a quick update in there. Keeps everyone in the loop, you know?

  • We'd love to hear a fun story or memorable moment from your experience as a Park Agent, particularly one that highlights the impact you've had on other women. The best part for me is seeing the smiles on my customers' faces when they get their vouchers. It's like they're proud of themselves for reaching their savings goals, and that's just awesome to see.

Nicola Broadhurst

Tenby's treasure, Nicola, has been spreading joy thanks to Park for an incredible 22 years.

  • Why did you become a Park Agent? Well, when Auntie Jan decided to step back, I initially thought I could handle it myself. But as Christmas approached with three young children, I found myself struggling and even went into debt to make ends meet. It was a challenging time, but through it, I realised Auntie Jan was right all along, and since then, I've never been in that situation again.

  • How does being a Park Super Agent empower you to make a difference? For me, the greatest reward is knowing that I can help others experience a stress-free Christmas.

  • If you could give a shout-out or advice to other women considering joining Park as Agents, what would it be? Absolutely go for it! There's nothing to lose, and it's truly a win-win situation for everyone involved.

  • We'd love to hear a fun story or memorable moment from your experience as a Park Agent, particularly one that highlights the impact you've had on other women. Well, here's a funny one: When my new neighbour moved in, he thought something suspicious was happening because of all the people knocking on my door to pick up their vouchers Once I explained everything, though, everything was cool. It's moments like these that remind me of the positive impact I'm making in my community.

Christine Carney

Christine, also known as our Sunderland superstar, has been making waves at Park for a fantastic 14 years.

  • Why did you become a Park Agent? I became a Park Agent to help families have a special Christmas. The idea of spreading the cost in the lead-up to Christmas is just fantastic.

  • How does being a Park Super Agent empower you to make a difference? Being a Park Agent has made a huge difference to many people who would otherwise struggle during the holiday season without the Park Christmas savings.

  • If you could give a shout-out or advice to other women considering joining Park as Agents, what would it be? To anyone considering becoming a Park Agent, just go for it! You won't regret it!

  • We'd love to hear a fun story or memorable moment from your experience as a Park Agent, particularly one that highlights the impact you've had on other women. A memorable moment for me is something I experience every year. When I hand over the gift vouchers and cards to my customers, the happiness and joy on their faces are absolutely priceless. Knowing they can then go and do their Christmas shopping however they like, all covered by Park, is truly amazing.

Kym Arnold

Hartlepool's very own hero, Kym, has been helping families save for Christmas with a smile on her face for 16 sweet years.

  • Why did you become a Park Agent? I became a Park agent many years ago when I was just 21 years old. It started as a way for my mam and me to save some money for Christmas. Back then, I didn't have children; it was just for our family.

  • How does being a Park Super Agent empower you to make a difference? Being a Park Super Agent empowers me to make a difference, not only with people I know but also with those who don’t even save with me. Providing advice and valuable information on available options and different ways of saving brings me immense satisfaction knowing I've helped others.

  • If you could give a shout-out or advice to other women considering joining Park as Agents, what would it be? To anyone considering becoming a Park agent, I say absolutely do it. There's nothing to lose (literally!), only gains. You can pay off Christmas before it even arrives, avoid debt, and earn some extra cash when it's needed the most.

  • We'd love to hear a fun story or memorable moment from your experience as a Park Agent, particularly one that highlights the impact you've had on other women. Among the many memorable moments I've had over the years, delivery days stand out. In the lead-up to the delivery, it's become a playful tradition with my customers; if they ask when their vouchers will arrive, they get a humorous 'day delay' in collecting them (just for laughs, of course!).

When I finally get the notification that the delivery is ready, I send out the message saying 'ready for collection,' and my door doesn't stop until they've all been picked up. Witnessing the joy on people's faces when they receive their savings cards, knowing that Christmas or a significant part of it is already paid for, is truly heart-warming.

One particularly memorable incident involved my best friend and me sorting out vouchers. One year, the postman mistakenly delivered only 10 envelopes instead of the 12 we were expecting. Determined to find the missing envelopes, my best friend and I chased the postman around our estate in his car. Eventually, we caught up with him and asked him to check his van, where we discovered the extra 2 envelopes had fallen out of his bag and were tucked away down the side. It was a hilarious and unforgettable moment that we still laugh about to this day.

Kerry Blackett

Kerry, our Doncaster dynamo, has been part of the Park Christmas Savings family for a solid 15 years.

  • Why did you become a Park Agent? Well, I realised how easy it was to save each week, and it really adds up. I wanted to help others feel the same way I do come November.

  • If you could give a shout-out or advice to other women considering joining Park as Agents, what would it be? Stay organised; it's the key to running your Park agency smoothly. Keep in contact with all your customers, even if it's just a quick hello; it always reminds them to stay on top of payments. Social media is a great way to talk about Park and how it works. Plus, you can earn commission on customers' orders for yourself. I have to say, Park is the best saving club by far.

Putting aside a small amount every week will take you and your family one step closer to a brilliant Christmas 2024. Pay in £10 or £20 a week over 50 weeks and you’ll have £500 or £1,000 to spend on presents – no stress, no debts. The best time to start saving is always now, so be an early bird and reap the benefits next year.
