Ramadan Mubarak

As we (or friends, family and colleagues) prepare for the Holy month, we can begin to look forward to new beginnings and establishing and maintaining good habits.

Ramadan marks the remembrance of when the Qur’an, (the ancient religious text of Islam), was first presented to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This special night is called ‘Lailut ul-Qadr’, translating into English as ‘the Night of Power’.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast between dawn and sunset. The first, singular meal before dawn is known as ‘suhoor’, and the final meal of the day at sunset is called ‘iftar’.

Fasting is important to Muslims in a number of ways: it allows people to feel more connected to Allah, (or God), but the abstaining from things otherwise allowed throughout the year lets people honour their faith. The hunger and thirst prompted by fasting, allows Muslims to empathise with other people’s suffering, and in the process strengthen their connection with God.

In 2023, the start date for Ramadan is expected to be Thursday 23rd March. This could easily change as the Islamic calendar revolves around the lunar cycle. The start of Ramadan will be confirmed upon the sighting of the new moon.

Even if we don’t celebrate Ramadan ourselves, we can gift the special people in our lives who do. From halal sweets to a Love2shop e-Gift Card, Park HQ have put together a selection of ideas for Ramadan gift hampers.

From your friends at Park HQ, we hope this Ramadan brings joy, health and peace to us all.
