Dad puns, that’s how we eye roll
This year, Father’s Day is on Sunday 18th June. It’s our chance to celebrate our dads for everything they do. Most dads, let’s be honest, are super low-key though – there’s no way of knowing what they want without prodding them for information.
Personalised Father’s Day gifts
Making a gift from scratch is one of the most thoughtful things we can do for our dads. We all know how much some dads love tinkering, so why not show them what we can do? Here are a few DIY gifts for Father’s Day…
- DIY BBQ apron. Dads who love grilling will especially appreciate a customised apron. Use either fabric markers or fabric paint to personalise the plain apron with cool motifs, such as flames in orange, red, and yellow paint.
- Sports-themed doughnuts. Perfect for dads with a sweet tooth, this idea combines their love of tasty treats with their favourite sport. Check out some more Father’s Day-themed recipes, courtesy of BBC Good Food, by clicking here.
- Homemade drink koozie. Dad can sip on his favourite drink without having to worry about it warming up in his hand with a homemade drink koozie. They’re super easy to make. All we need to do is cut a length of craft foam, making sure it's shorter than a can. Next, wrap the foam around the can, and cut it into shape when it overlaps. Then decorate it how ever we like – even get the kids involved – the final touch is adding a piece of Velcro to the back.
- Pre-shave oil. A super simple to make gift, pre-shave oil is a great alternative to shaving gel, as it leaves skin feeling smooth as silk. The recipe is basic, the ingredients needed are grapeseed oil, olive oil, and a few droplets of an essential oil – the tutorial suggests either sandalwood or cedarwood.
- Hardware photo frame. For the grease monkeys out there, this custom frame idea shows our dad exactly how nuts we are for him. Just let him know you’ve borrowed one of those spare nuts and bolts he’s been keeping in his toolbox for years ‘just in case’. The main thing is choosing a photo with sentimental value – this special Father’s Day gift will make even the burliest of men shed a tear.
- Mini zen garden. Zen gardens are not only decorative, but they encourage us to relax by taking time to reflect. A mini version for our dads can be kept in their man caves or home offices. All that’s needed is a small box, sand, ornamental plants and a rake for maintenance.
